MARSHALL

The springboard of the design

The client had Rimu timber furniture pieces to bring with her to this new build. We wanted to celebrate the use of Rimu as opposed to shying away from it. We did this by incorporating the timber in the joinery and adding details that brought it into a current design aesthetic. We paired the Rimu with subtle ‘quiet’ tones, almost the undertones of the Rimu, so as not to compete with the timber. These flanking materials were high in texture to bring substance and compliment the Rimu with balance. The client also loves and has studied Marine Biology. We wanted to pay homage to this part of her life by adding forms, textures and facets that alluded to marine-life. The pendants and furnishing choices derived from conches, shells and treasures found by the sea. The texture of the stone bench was to feel like sandy dunes on a beach.

THE DETAILS

We used clear linear lines as well as curved forms in the design. This was to bring structure and symmetry to the interior but also evoke a relaxing environment to live in.

The profile of the doors are a refined thickness to balance the depth the Rimu brings and provide moderninity.

The bathrooms were also a soft palette, allowing for the Rimu details to again be the feature.

The sheer curtains were to filter light into the home and bring a softness against the hard materials
